MİRAS

Miras nedir?
Miras dediğimiz zaman, aklımıza hemen para, mal veya çeşitli mülkler gelir.
Fakat, mirasın daha büyük anlamıda var. İsterseniz, senelerce babadan oğula anlatılan şu alttaki hikaye vasıtasıyla bir ders alalım.
Osmanlı devrinden önce, eski Türk diyarlarında yaşayan ihtiyar ünlü bir Paşa, kara-kara düşünüyormuş geç yaşlarında: "Insanlar niçin iyi devlet idaresi bekler? O iyilik nerede bulunur?"
Bunları tam istediği şekilde cevaplandırabilmek için de, uzun bir yol seyahatine çıkıp, memleketin her tarafını gezmiş.
Bu Paşa, çok cömert, çok bilgili, ve çok merhametli bir kişi olarak tanındığı için, vatanın her tarafından ve her mevkiinden ileri-gelen vekillerle görüşüp uzun-uzun ve derin-derin fikir tartışabilmiş. Tartışmış tartışmasına da, nafile!
Yalnız, bir vekilin söylediği şu lâfları hiçmi hiç unutamamış:
"Paşam, Tanrıya şükürler olsun, işlerimiz meydanda. Alnımız açıktır! Buyrun Efendim, işte bizim eser listemiz: Hep milleti cehaletten kurtarmaya çalışmadık mı? Adama silah verip, kabadayı yetiştirmedik biz. Suçsuzu koruduk, suçluyu cezalandırdık. Ne azıntıyı çoğunluğa, ne de çoğunluğu azıntıya bela etmedik. Burada, kötü inançla, büyük-küçük, uzak-yakın, kimseyi soymadık, dövmedik, vede ölmeden mezara gömmedik. Vatanımızı kâr ve şahsi hamle vesilesiyle savaşa, hilleye ve düzenbazlığa da hiç alet ettirmedik."

Paşa, içinden "iyi-iyi de, bunlar benim aradığım şeyin yalnız bazı parçaları" demiş. Peki, "ben ne arıyorum ki?" diye kendini yine eleştirmiş, ama mükemmel bir cevap bulamamış.
Yolda, tam bütün ümitlerini yitirdiği bir anda, geçmişten bir kere hayatını bağışladığı bir fukara çıkmış önüne.
"Ey Yüce Paşa, niçin bu kadar rahatsızlık var yüzünüzde?" diye sormuş.
Kibirsiz Devletli, hiç çekinmeden anlatmış derdini fukaraya.
Fukara: "Ah Efendim, üzülmeyin, bence o soruların cevapları bellidir" demiş.
"Siz bu şeyleri benden daha iyi bilirsiniz ama, hayatta siz gibi büyük adamların iştahı başka, biz küçüklerin iştahı başkadır. Diyeceğim, sizin rahmetiniz, bizim hep bereketimizdir! Gelgelelim ki, bu dünyada bizim şu kısacık hayatımız o kadar çelişki dolu ki, şeker illeti gibi, hep tatlı-acı insanlara. Lâkin, siz hükümet başında vazifedeyken, zenginler ve kuvvetliler fakirleri hiç ezemedi. Sizin uyguladığınız kanunlar milletin hak ve hürriyetlerini korudu, onlara barış ve huzur getirdi. Bize, şu ecelli dünyada, bundan daha faziletli bir miras varmıdır?”
Bunu duyunca, Paşa Efendi sevinçle kucaklamış fakir adamı, ve kesesine bir avuç altın para atmış. Lâflarından o kadar çok memnun olmuş ki, hayatının sonuna kadar her yerde durmadan tekrarlamış.
"Fukarayı her alanda zengin ettik!" diyerek, hep övünmüş .
“Paşa Efendi, bu ne demektir?” diye soran dostlara, şöyle bir cevap vermiş:
"Şükret bizim ortak insani-hazinemize! Çünkü, devlette iyi idare, adaletli idaredir! Adaletli idare de, az-çok, her vatandaşı memnun etmeye çalışır. Bu gerçek oluştuğu vakit, yekünen, bizim insanlık tarihçesine bırakacağımız maddi ve manevi bir mirastır!"

Paşamızın nasihati miras olsun tüm insaniyetin daimi sıhhatlerine.

Inheritance

What is inheritance?

When we say inheritance, we immediately think of money, property, or various assets.
But, there is a deeper meaning to inheritance. If you wish, let's take a lesson through the story told from father to son for years.
Before the Ottoman era, an elderly, famous Pasha (General) living in the old Turkish lands was thinking hard in his old age: "Why do people expect good state administration? Where can that goodness be found?"
To be able to answer these exactly as he wanted, he took a long journey and toured all over the country.
This Pasha, known as a very generous, knowledgeable, and compassionate person, was able to have long and deep discussions with representatives from all parts of the country and from all positions. He may have long debated within, but all to no avail!

Alone, he never forgot these words said by a councilman:
"My Pasha, thank God, our affairs are in the open. We are clear! Here you are, here are our list of accomplishments: Haven't we always tried to save the people from ignorance? We didn't arm individuals and cultivate bullies. We protected the innocent, punished the guilty. We neither unleashed the minority on the majority, nor did we make the majority oppress the minority. Here, in bad faith, those big or small, those distant or near; we did not rob or molest. And, we didn't bury anyone alive! We never allowed our homeland to be used for war, trickery, and unscrupulousness for personal gain."

The Pasha, within himself, said 'well-well, these are just some parts of what I'm looking for'. Then, he criticized himself again saying 'what am I looking for anyway?' but he couldn't find a perfect answer.
On the way, just when he lost all his hopes, a pauper from the past, whose life he had once spared, appeared before him.
"O Great Pasha, why is there so much distress on your face?" he asked.
Without any arrogance, the dignified state man shared his troubles with the pauper.
The pauper said, "Ah sir, do not be upset, in my opinion the answers to those questions are obvious: You know these things better than I do, but the appetites of great men like you in life are different, and the appetites of us, the lesser ones, are different. What I mean to say is, your mercy is always our blessing! However, in this world, our short-lived life is so full of contradictions, sweet and bitter to people like a sugary disease. But, while you were in government duty, the rich and the powerful could never oppress the poor. The laws you implemented protected the rights and freedoms of the people, brought them peace and tranquility. In this mortal world, is there a more virtuous legacy than that?"

Upon hearing this, Pasha Efendi hugged the poor man with joy, and threw a handful of gold coins into his purse. He was so pleased with his words that he repeated them everywhere until the end of his life.
"We have made the poor rich in every field!" he said, always boasting.
To friends who asked, “Pasha Efendi, what does this mean?” he gave this answer:

"Give thanks to our shared human treasury! Because good governance in the state is a just governance! Just governance, more or less, seeks to satisfy every citizen. When this truth happens, it is a material and spiritual legacy that we will leave to our human history!"
