Atam
Sizde gittiniz, ama çok erken!
Sizler istediğiniz kadar
tam sevilmediğinizi iddia edin:
Bence bu, kendinize
sevgi mahrumiyeti arz etmez.
Yalnız değildiniz, ama yalnız sevdiniz
İzninizle, farz edelim, siz
herkesçe çok sevilir bir kişiydiniz;
fakat, kimseyi sevmediğinize dair
bühtanlar ortaya atılsaydı:
O zaman, sizde cinayet iştahına
taht kurmuş bir husumet bağına
hemen dalabilirdiniz:
Aynen, o zamanın diğer devlet zorbaları gibi!
Fırsat bulsaydınız,
suikaste bile tamah edebilirdiniz.
O güzel başınıza
tahrik gayesi yerleşebilirdi.
Oysa, hüsnüniyet ve onun tamiri
en samimi emelinizdi.
Sevgiye, doğru yol açtınız:
Sizler, zaten ezelden o yoldaydınız.
Ama, yine tek, yine yalnızdınız, her yerde:
Nefretin, aşktan daha derin yerlerde
istemediniz, bir kervan kurmasını!
Varlığınız, şefkat ve merhametten kaynaklandı:
İyi kalpliliğe, acele ispat buldunuz;
zira, o kendinizde saklı duruyordu:
Hediye ettiniz, Türkiye’ye!
Çünkü, sizde bir müslüman çocuğuydunuz:
Gayrı-müslimde sizin sırrınız canlanamazdı!
Hakikatten seviyordunuz, çünkü
milli benliğinize sahip oldunuz, değerli Paşam
Neticede, örneğiniz ve ahlak güzelliğiniz
birlikte ve manevi himayenizde,
sadece bizimle yaşayacaktır.
Ruhunuz şad olsun ATAM!

Forefather
You left us so early!
Claim as much as you can
that you were not loved enough,
for me, that does not reflect
a lack of love for yourself.
You were not alone, but you loved alone
With your permission, let's assume that you
were a person who was loved by everyone;
but, if a slanderous talk saying
you loved no one was thrown out there:
Then, hostility
establishing a throne for its murderous appetite
would have defamed you too!
You could have dived right into it:
Just like the other state tyrants of that time!
If you had the chance,
you could have even coveted assassination.
Purpose and provocation
could have settled in that wonderful head of yours.
Yet, innocence and its repair
was always your most sincere goal.
You opened up a path to love.
You were already on that path since forever.
But again alone, you were so alone everywhere.
You did not want hate, which is deeper than love,
to build and run its caravan of pain!
Your existence stemmed from compassion and mercy:
You found quick proof to goodwill;
because, it was hidden in you:
You gifted that to Türkiye!
Because, you were a true believer's child as well.
Your secret could not be revived in a non-believer!
You truly loved, since
you owned up to your national self, worthy Pasha!
Your example and the beauty of your moral strength,
as your spiritual inspiration
will forever live on everywhere, but mostly among us:
So, Rest In Peace, FATHER of the Turks!
